Do i HAVE to keep my braces on for another year after my surgery?

I had jaw surgery about two weeks ago. My orthodontist said that I should be able to get my braces off in a couple of months. I guess it depends on your specific case, because everyone is different. If your orthodontist said you'll need them for another year, then he probably knows what he is talking about.
